Prime Upland Bird Habitat

You can spend weeks following miles and miles of active and overgrown woods roads that provide a wide range of access to prime Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock shooting areas.

Our hunting areas provide the finest Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock Hunting in the Great State of Maine. Abandoned farms, apple orchards, fields and timber harvesting methods combine to create the perfect environment for Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock.

North Country Lodge is located in the most productive upland Game hunting area in Maine – Aroostook County, the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi. You will find the scenery breathtaking, including Maine’s brilliant October foliage colors.

Generous Bag Limits

• Grouse – daily bag limits of four and a possession limit of eight*
• Woodcock – daily bag limit of three and a possession limit of nine*

Maine Bird Hunting Seasons

• Grouse – October 1st to November 30th.
• Woodcock – season is determined each summer along with all other migratory birds. The seasons usually runs from October 1st through mid-November.

Bird Dogs

Watching a dog on a point and then retrieving is a major highlight of bird hunting. You are welcome to bring along your trusted hunting companions. Due to health regulations and consideration for other hunters, we require that you kennel your dog inside your vehicle at night.

I would like to thank you and the people at North Country Lodge for such an enjoyable weekend. It has been 40 years since I have hunted grouse with the level of excitement of having an abundance of grouse and woodcock in the woods. I was always on red alert for the next bird to flush. The habitat and weather was perfect hunting conditions. I also enjoyed the scenery, foliage the moose sightings, let’s not forget the outstanding meals or the conversation with Mr. Goodman.
